Private Turner joined the service in February 1918 and after completing his training was sent off with his regiment to the Western front in France. Tragically, Private Turner lost his life whilst serving with his unit at the battle of Arras during its final advance. He gave his all on 23rd August 1918, aged just 18.

Francis James Turner was the son of Sam and Elizabeth Turner who lived in Little Street, Milton Malsor. For many years the Turners had been the village smithies and we might speculate that, had Francis lived, he would have joined his father in the business.
