Private James William Collar was mobilised in August 1914 at the declaration of war and was immediately sent to the Western front with the !st Expeditionary Force. Shortly after his arrival he was killed in action on 23rd August 1914 whilst taking part in the battle of Mons. He was awarded the Mons Star, General Service medal and the Victory medal.
James was the second son of farm worker James and Angela Collar, and had seven brothers and sisters. He was born in 1895 at The Green, Milton Malsor.
